Rock or Sand
Hello:
Our text for today is Matthew7:24-29
24 ”Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Our text today concludes the infamous “sermon on the mountain.” Jesus uses an analogy of a man building a house and using a rock as his foundation verses sand. The “words of mine” that Jesus is referring to is the part of scripture covered in Matthew chapters 5 through 7.
Jesus concludes by telling us that if we obey these teachings and live our lives accordingly then no matter what storms come in our life and no matter how hard the winds blow and beat up against us, we will not fall because our foundation is sure and strong. On the other hand, should we choose to ignore these teachings, he calls us foolish and destined to fall and not just fall but fall with a “great crash.”
The text teaches that when Jesus finished his teachings, the crowds were amazed because he wasn’t just another religious teacher but he taught with authority and not as the other teachers.
This concludes our five month study of the Sermon on the Mount. Can you believe we spent five months on just two chapters of the bible?
We have learned a lot of historical background and Jewish culture which was necessary to understand the scriptures in its context.
As with any information, the challenge is “Will we put it into practice.” Are you building on a rock or sand?
Have a wonderful weekend. We’ll start Matthew the 8th chapter on Monday.
God Bless!!!!
Don’t forget to pray and read God’s word daily.

The Solid Rock
My hope is bulid on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the seet-est frame, but whil-ly lean on Jesus’ name. When dark-ness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace, In every hight and stormy gale My anchor holds with in the veil His oath, His covenant his blood support me in the whelming flood, When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. When the sall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him in found Dressed in his righteousness alone ,Faultless to stand before the throne.
On the christ the solid rock I stand ALL other ground is sinking sand, ALL other ground is sinking sand.
The Song blesses my soul
Love ya!!!!!!!!!
