Be True to Yourself

Hello:

Our text for today is:

Matthew 11:16 ”To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: 17 ”‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.’” But wisdom is proved right by her actions.” 20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 ”Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you,

Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and

Sidon
, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and

Sidon
on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you,

Capernaum
, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in

Sodom
, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for

Sodom
on the day of judgment than for you.”

Our text today is still dealing with John the Baptist.   Jesus is commenting on how you can not please people.   Jesus was saying that people will always be critical no matter how much you try to conform to what they want.

In the case of John the Baptist, he says that John came neither eating nor drinking but was modest in his diet and lived a very disciplined and kosher lifestyle and they said that he had a demon.  Jesus came eating and drinking and they labeled him as a glutton and a drunkard.   Jesus was saying: people don’t know what they want.  They will never be satisfied even if you conform to what they want, they will always demand more.

Jesus says wisdom is proved right by her actions.  Jesus closes out by denouncing the cities in which miracles had been performed in saying that the cities such as Tyre and Sidon and Sodom and Gomorrah will be more tolerable on the day of Judgment for if those same miracles had been done in those cities, then they would have repented.

So what can we learn from our text today.  Be yourself.  You can’t please people.  We all have to be true to God and ourselves.  When you start conforming, people will continue to demand more and it will never be enough.  One day, you will wake up and not know who you are because you tried to please everybody and in that you sometimes loose yourself.

Stay encouraged!!!!!!!!

God Bless!!!!!!!!!!
