Touched Hearts

Hello:

Today, I want to break away from our study just for a day.  Those of you that follow my daily devotional know that when something that I have read in God’s word touches my heart then I stop and share it with you.   If you follow me daily then you know that one of my goals for this year is to do a study on the monarchy which is the life of Saul, David, and Solomon.  These were the first kings that served Israel as a united nation.  Later history reveals that the kingdom will be divided and will become the nation of Israel and the nation of Judah.   Saul, David, and Solomon were the monarchs that ruled when Israel was one nation.

This text that I want to share with you is Samuel’s announcement to the people that this is the king that God has chosen for them.   Let’s look at the text.

I Samuel 10: 17 Samuel summoned the people of Israel to the Lord at Mizpah 18 and said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the power of Egypt and all the kingdoms that oppressed you.’ 19 But you have now rejected your God, who saves you out of all your calamities and distresses. And you have said, ‘No, set a king over us.’ So now present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and clans.” 20 When Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. 21 Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri’s clan was chosen. Finally Saul son of Kish was chosen. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found. 22 So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among the baggage.” 23 They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the people he was a head taller than any of the others. 24 Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the man the Lord has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.” Then the people shouted, “Long live the king!” 25 Samuel explained to the people the regulations of the kingship. He wrote them down on a scroll and deposited it before the Lord. Then Samuel dismissed the people, each to his own home. 26 Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, accompanied by valiant men whose hearts God had touched. 27 But some troublemakers said, “How can this fellow save us?” They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent.

That last passage is what I want you to focus on.  The text says that Saul went to his home in Gibeah accompanied by valiant men whose hearts God had touched.    This scripture just blessed me this morning.   These men would be with Saul no matter what; through the good and bad times.   They stayed by Saul’s side not because of Saul but because of what God had done to their hearts.

God has everything in control.   He even has prepared for us people who will be in our lives and will love us through the good and bad and will just stay faithful not because of us but because God has touched their hearts.

I am feeling grateful for the people who I know that God has put in my life to just be there for me.  They want nothing from me at all except to help me accomplish what I believe God has for me in life and to support me whether I experience victory or defeat.

I also know that God has touched my heart and has assigned me to people who I am just there for and do not want anything from them.  My job has been to lift them up in prayer, intercede on their behalf, rejoice with them in their victories and believe God with them in their troubles and mentor them in the things of God’s word.    I have sometimes wanted to walk away from some situations because the burden has been too intense at times, but the Lord always causes me to stay right by their side.   As I was reading that passage today, I realized that God has touched my heart towards them just as he has touched people’s heart towards me.

Be encouraged everyone.   God has a plan for all of this whether you are experiencing the economic pressures of our economy or any other difficulty.  God has a plan all the way down to the people that are suppose to come in and out of our lives.

Ohhhh!!!!!!!!!!  I just love him.

I’ll see you tomorrow.

God Bless.

Don’t forget to pray and read God’s word daily.
